Family Traditions

Our December family project was to write about a favorite family tradition. The students loved being able to share their stories with the class. Enjoy!

Christmas Eve by Trae

On Christmas Eve we open presents, put on pajamas, sit around the table, drink hot cocoa.  Mom and Dad read a story and we go to bed.

Christmas Tree by Aaron

I put up the Christmas tree.  It has a star and bells.  It has white lights.  We put presents under the tree.  Santa puts presents under the tree too!

Christmas Eve by Nathan

On Christmas Eve we go to Aunt Stephanie’s house!  We play in the basement playroom.  We play Rescue Heroes.  We eat finger foods.  We eat taquitos, shrimp and vegetables.  We do the Nativity play.  We wear costumes, then we open presents.  I get into my pajamas and go home.

Breakfast in bed on Mother’s Day by Cash

My mom works hard!  On Mother’s Day we like to do something special for her.  First we let her sleep in.  While she is asleep, we make breakfast with my Dad.  We make eggs, toast, coffee and bacon.  Then we say “good morning!” then bring her presents and cards.  My mom loves this tradition because it makes her feel appreciated.

Christmas Eve by Jentri

On Christmas Eve our family has a Mexican fiesta my grandma makes the food from scratch.  It is really really good.  We also make gingerbread houses out of graham crackers.  I love Christmas Eve.

Our Christmas Tradition by Katie

At Christmas we have a tradition. We go over to my Grandma’s house with all my cousins on Christmas Eve.  We eat dinner and ginger bread cookies.  Then we all open presents.  My Grandma gives all the kids new pajamas.  Then we sing Christmas songs.  Then when its ark we see Rudolph in the back yard and we know it is time to go home and go to bed.

Oh Christmas Tree by Collin

Our family tradition is when we get our Christmas tree.  We go to a tree farm and look at all the Christmas trees.  We pick the best one.  My dad has a floppy dog ears hat and picks somebody to wear it.  That person acts like a dog…barking and …running around the tree that they think is the best.  Then they mark the spot!!  Then we sing “Oh Christmas tree”.

Sunday Tradition by Kauai

One of our family traditions is we always go to one of my aunts or uncles or grandparents house every Sunday to play with my cousins and eat until I feel sick.  It has been one of our traditions for a very long time.  We always wrestle, play games, play board games and sports.  It is a lot more fun than just sleeping on Sundays.  This is just one of  many family traditions that we have.

Family Easter Egg Hunt by Gabriel

Every year on Easter morning when we eat our breakfast and it is all done, me and my family have an Easter egg hunt! It is our family tradition. We find cards that tell us where to go next. It is so fun, that I want to have a Easter egg hunt everyday!! Do you have an Easter egg hunt? And do you like finding eggs? I bet you are wondering what is inside of the eggs? Usually there is chocolate in the eggs. Did you know that? There are pictures on the cards so my brothers can read them.

The Cloward Family in Kelly Canyon by Whitney C.

I cannot believe I learned how to ski! Last year my Uncle Dean taught me how. My Uncle Dean is on the Ski Patrol at Kelly Canyon in Rexburg, Idaho. My family drove to Idaho over President’s Day weekend. We stayed at their house. I had a sleepover with my cousin Lauren. We played games and watched movies. One night, London, my sister, went to get a drink. When she opened the cupboard a glass fell down from the shelf and landed on her nose. We thought she broke her nose. The plastic surgeon said she would be ok. We laughed that she didn’t get hurt skiing but nearly broke her nose getting a drink. My Uncle Dean gave me and London ski lessons. We played games like Red Light Green Light while we skied down the hill. My dad was on the lift with me and my sister. When it was time to get off, my dad only had time to help get London and me off. He ended up riding the lift all the way to the top and skiing down to find us. It was funny! We had so much fun skiing in Idaho that we decided we would go every year in February. It will be a fun tradition.

Our Christmas Eve Night! By Harrison

We go shopping for charity. Our family wraps the gifts together. Christmas Eve we have family dinner and open pajamas and slippers.

Christmas Eve by Jessica

I like Christmas because I get to spend time with my family. My family does many fun things around the holidays. I like to make gingerbread houses, Christmas cards, and sing Christmas songs. My favorite part about Christmas is Christmas Eve. Christmas Eve is a special day in my family. My mom makes a special Christmas dinner. At night time we read the nativity story and play Christmas games. Every year I buy gifts for my brothers. On Christmas Eve we exchange our gifts with each other. This is our family tradition. Christmas is my favorite time of year.

Christmas Certificates by Seth

We have a special tradition in our family. Every Christmas night our dad gives us certificates, good for one whole day just with him. Last year we went to a movie, lunch, and Boondock’s. My brother has gone skiing. My sister went horseback riding and they both went on scavenger hunts. This year we are having a sports day. We are going to a Jazz game and then to get baseball stuff – a bat and a bag. Someday I want to give certificates to my kids and my brother will give certificates to his kids.

Opening Presents by Whitney M.

When its Christmas morning, we wake up and when we wake up we are very excited about Christmas. After we get dressed we go down stairs and get in line for opening presents. We get in line smallest to biggest. Then we watch each other open our presents. While each person opens something, my mom or dad video tapes or takes pictures. Our grandma and grandpa give us presents each year. The end.

Sunday Dinner by Elise

My favorite family tradition in Sunday dinner. We get together and eat. Sometimes we go to Grandma and Grandpa’s house. Sometimes we go to Aunty Wendy’s house or everyone comes to our house. It’s fun to play with my older cousin, Shelby. She is really nice. We often eat my favorite Japanese food. It is gyoza or potstickers. It is yummy.

Christmas Tradition by Chandler

Lights!! Lights!! Lights!! We like to drive around looking at these. We get with Gama and Papa. We drink hot chocolate. We have family time and we look at lights. Sometimes they have choo choo trains. We see trees- red and green. It is cold outside. But me and my brothers get out of the car and run around still though. I love this tradition!

Dinner by Jazmine

I like dinner when we all get to talk about our day. What I like most is when I get to tell about the best part of my day.

Santa’s Cookies by Julie

Every year Santa can’t wait to come to our house for a special reason. Every year Santa comes to our house because he eats our cookies. They are yummy. We make sugar cookies for him, We have a special plate for Santa at home. We write him a note every year. We thank him for bringing us our presents. We say, “Merry Christmas” to him. We leave his reindeer some carrots. We leave him some milk with his cookies. We look if he ate the cookies on Christmas morning. He always, ALWAYS, eats the cookies! It is amazing!

Christmas Ornaments by Payton

My tradition is about Christmas ornaments. I like to get the ornaments that make sounds. They are my favorite ones to get. This year’s ornament is an MP3 player and a Pirates of the Caribbean. The MP3 player has four songs. They are: We Wish you a Merry Christmas, Oh Christmas Tree, Deck the Halls, and Jingle Bells.

Sledding, A Family Tradition by Karl

We go to the mountains to sled every Christmas vacation. We go with my brothers and my sisters and my cousins. We bring sleds, mittens, ski pants, hats, drinks, and food. Last year a lady almost hit my sister and me. I flew in the air.

Christmas Stories by Ethan

Every year at Christmas time, our family gets a new Christmas book. Every night we try to read a new Christmas story. It’s fun to read a story. It gets us ready for Christmas! This year the book that we got is How the Grinch Stole Christmas, By Dr. Seuss.

The Gingerbread House by Emma

Every Christmas my family decorates a gingerbread house. The gingerman and the snowman are brown! We use a bunch of frosting and candy. I like to eat the candy while we are making the gingerbread house. The mints are my favorite candy. My mom helps me do the sides. I make the windows out of frosting. I love making the gingerbread house.

Waiting for the Bell by Maris

It’s Christmas morning! Jonah and I are waiting to open our presents. But every year we have to wait for the bell to ring. My daddy told me when he was little, his daddy rang a bell before he could open his presents. This tradition has been in our family for many years and it is one tradition that I will pass down to my children.

The Night Before Christmas by Tavish

Every year my family sits in a circle. Every person has a present. My dad reads the story to us. Every time he reads the word “the,” we pass the present to the person next to us. We get to keep the one we have at the end of the story.

The Special Plate by Anahi

This is my tradition. We have the special plate. My family gets the plate every week in order from big to small. We say nice things about the person with the plate.
